Chicago State Women's Cross Country Compete at the Huskie Classic


DEKALB, Ill. –
 The Chicago State University women's cross-country team continued their season by making the trip to Northern Illinois University to compete in the Huskie Classic. The team competed in a further distance this week as they ran in a 5K race. The Cougars scored 129 team points to finish fifth as a team. Team competing included DePaul, Highland Community College, UIC, Kishwaukee College, Western Illinois, and host Northern Illinois.

The team was led by graduate student Weronika Stanczak who finished 12th overall to be the highest finisher for Chicago State. Stanczak ran a 19:10.80 which is a personal best by 48 seconds in the 5K distance. Freshman Alexis Fallejo ran a 22:36.01 in her first career collegiate cross country 5K distance crossing the line at 40th overall. Joyline Jebiwott finished five spots after Fallejo in 45th running a 30:07.34 for her first career 5K run. Chana Staples finished 46th with a 31:42.97. Freshman Aliyah Ferguson opened her cross-country career with a 31:43.09 to finish 47th in her Cougar debut. 

Looking ahead: The Cougars return to the course next Friday September 12 as they travel to Normal, Illinois to compete at the Redbird Invite hosted by Illinois State University. The competition begins at 10:30 AM.
